Unbiased credit card comparison with affiliate-free data
Functional scraping pipeline and comparison frontend; revenue model did not close
The major credit card comparison sites (NerdWallet, WalletHub, and others) are materially shaped by their affiliate relationships with card issuers. That affects which cards get featured, how they are ranked, and which products get surfaced. I thought there was a real product in a comparison tool with cleaner, affiliate-free data.
I built out the full scraping pipeline to pull card data from multiple sources, normalize it into a consistent schema, and keep it fresh. The frontend had solid filtering and comparison functionality. The piece I never finished was the SEO content strategy — the plan was to use RAG on scraped financial blogs to generate high-quality articles that could drive organic traffic.
The business model did not come together. Without direct affiliate deals with card issuers there was no revenue path, and without revenue I could not justify the ongoing maintenance. The technical side worked; the commercial side did not.
